| TRYING TO COME UP WITH GOOD TEST TO FING THE EMISSIVITY OF HOUSEHOLD FOIL. I COVERED A BOX, PAINTED ON THE INSIDE WITH BLACK PAINT, CUT-OUT A HOLE FOR VIEWING. APPEARED LOOKING AT FOIL THAT IT WAS A REFLECTION OF THE BOX AND POSSIBLY ALSO THE CAMERA LENSES AND MAYBE THE DETECTOR....ANYWAY, EMISSIVITY READINGS APPEARED FALSE. I'M USING A INFRAMETRICS PM 380. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY AND ALL SUGGESTIONS. EMISSIVITY TABLES FOR FOIL VALUES NOT USEABLE. CUSTOMER WANTS TO SEE TEST..... |

Try this:
Cover an object with some mass, perhaps a can of water, with foil. The foil must be well bonded to the object so as to conduct heat well.
Cover a portion of the foil with black electrical tape.
Fill the can with hot water and set your emiss. to .96(the value for the tape).
Determine the temp of the tape, then adjust your emiss until the indicated temp of the foil matches the previous reading for the tape. That should give you the emiss of the foil. |
