Camera 'hoods' for protection cathybuller 9/24/2009
Does anyone use a professional photographers protective hood to protect the IR camera from environmental factors?

Any suggestions on best model or make for such a 'hood'?

Thank you for replies.

I have checked this out and sorry to say these hoods are specific to the different make of photo camera. I found none to fit my B25. Flir do not offer hoods but maybe its something they should look at.

interesting post.

..when you talk about enviromental factors, are talking about to protect the camera lens itself or some humidity or alcaline-acid, dust, sand, gases, filtering into camera electronics?

A hood from dust, as like a construction site.
Not moisture, just dry elements and protection from them.

Any suggestions are welcomed.

I have ordered a hood of sorts and will try it out and reply with results.

I realise this is an old post but Im interested to see if anyone has developed some type of dust cover for FLIR cameras for use in very dusty environments such as quarries

You could just use a clear plastic bag to cover the entire camera, provided it doesn't overheat.

You coudl even use a black one, but then you wouldn't see what you were doing. ;-)

Camera are rated for a certian amount of enviromental factors and in most cases keeping the lens clean should be the concern. In other cases you can use a small plastic bag to go over the camera/lens but you will need to determine the transmissivity of the material for accurate measurements. Level II course deals with this.

Good luck
