IR Semitransparent materials measurements |

Hello,
I am looking for some info regarding measurements of IR semitransparent materials.
Knowing the material's density and absorption coefficent for a given wavelength, is it possible to assess the material''s temperature "inside" of the observed specimen?
Are there any theoretical/mathematical models describing how the heat confined "inside" of the material contributes to the total emited energy?
I will appreciate any info.
Thank you in advance.

Writing the equation giving the flux exiting from a semitransparent material is not that difficult, assuming that the material is either isothermal, or you know the temperature profile.
