As part of a preventive maintenance program, we were asked to perform some thermography imaging of walk-in coolers for a large hotel. I would appreciate some advice on key items to look for, ie. insulation defects, electrical overheating, etc. Thanks,

Some thinks to look at would be the fans,line sets,and coils, to look at air flows through the coils and gas flows. When looking at fans and motors for overheating. You can look at thermostats for electrical connections along with the other things that you have stated. Look at the condenser outside to see if it has any problems along with the inside componets.

Check door gaskets and door sweep when closed. Low temp boxes check anti sweat heaters for operation at door and door jam including threshold. Freezers will have a pressure relief valve above door. This valve is heated normally. A rise in temperature is normal. 2. Check all pipe and electrical penetrations. 3 Check roof seal to walls. If the box is embossed aluminum watch for reflections. It way be misleading. Hope this helps.
