| Infrared can not detect corrosion under insulation. But infrared can detect wet insulation which usually is a precursor to corrosion. |

I don't have any pictures. I retired from this line of work five years ago. Looking for CUI is really a hit or miss proposition. It is tough because you are looking at the aluminum jacket which is reflective. There is a 10-15 F difference in temperature between wet and dry insulation.
You have to be selective in which process lines to scan. Scan only those lines whose temperature is 250 F or less. Scan areas where you think water will settle or collect if there is water in-leakage through the jacket. Scan a few days after a good soaking rain in areas like low points or elbows. |
