Thank you for enrolling in a class at the Infrared Training Center. We are excited to work with you! To ensure you have the best learning experience, please review the following FAQ for important training details.

What you will need

IR Camera

Cameras are not provided during the training course. Having a camera is strongly recommended and you will be asked to complete lab exercises throughout the week as a requirement for certification. If you are attending the course with a colleague or friend, you may share a camera however we suggest no more than three students per one IR camera.

Laptop

To access important class materials and meet certification requirements, you must log into our e-learning platform. Examinations will be administered electronically, and tablets are also acceptable for this purpose. If you are unable to access your email during training or are using a company-issued device with security restrictions that prohibit opening PDF files or web browsing, please notify us immediately so we can guide you on how to best proceed.

Reporting Software

We will be using FLIR Thermal Studio and FLIR Ignite reporting software during the course. This post-processing software helps streamline inspections, organize data, and manage thousands of thermal images and videos. If you are not using a FLIR camera, please consult your camera manufacturer to download the compatible reporting application for your device.

Do I need an IR camera?

expand icon expand icon

We strongly recommend having an IR camera for training. Throughout the course, you will be asked to participate in camera operation labs designed to complement course lectures. Requirements for certification can be completed without an IR imager, however it is advantageous to your learning experience to follow along and participate. If attending with a colleague or friend, you may share an IR camera, but we suggest no more than three students to one IR camera to ensure all participants have equal opportunity to participate. Please note for sUAS courses our instructor will provide all UAS equipment

Do you recommend a specific IR camera for class?

expand icon expand icon

The type of camera you need will depend on your application. Generally, we recommend a camera capable of radiometric imagery that allows adjustments for custom object parameters (e.g., emissivity, T-refl). Spot pyrometers and test & measurement meters are not recommended as primary devices for the class. For specialized applications like Optical Gas Imaging, a FLIR GF-Series or an equivalent camera is required.

What software should I download?

expand icon expand icon

For our courses, we’ll be using the FLIR Thermal Studio or FLIR Ignite radiometric reporting software. This software is not a requirement or prerequisite for passing the course. This application is also not necessary for our Optical Gas Imaging courses. The purpose is to demonstrate analytical radiometric software that can assist in streamlining inspections, organizing data, and managing thermal images and videos. Please only download FLIR Thermal Studio Starter. We also recommend trying to connect your camera to your computer and the software prior to the start of the course.

If you are not utilizing a FLIR camera, please consult with your camera manufacturer to download the compatible reporting application for your camera.

What happens if I do not pass the exam?

In the event a student is not successful passing the certification exam on first attempt, we allow two additional exam sittings. Students who are required to retest are provided guidance by their instructor on which areas they should focus their study efforts to best prepare. In total, students have three attempts to pass the certification exam before they are required to reattend another certification course.
